CVS Pharmacy completes acquisition of select Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs assets, adding 63 stores in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, and acquiring prescription files from 626 pharmacies across 15 states, benefiting over nine million patients. The company hires 3,500 former employees to ensure continuity of care and invests in improving services.
The transaction, approved by the US Bankruptcy Court, was finalized in under four months, with the last store acquisitions in Bend, Oregon, and Bainbridge Island, Washington, wrapped up on 30 September. CVS strategically selected locations close to existing Rite Aid branches, focusing on maintaining accessibility and convenience for patients during the transition.
CVS emphasizes maintaining and expanding access to pharmacy care nationwide, with the goal of supporting both new and existing patients as operations at the acquired sites stabilize. Len Shankman, CVS Health’s Executive Vice President, highlights the importance of the acquisition in ensuring convenient and trusted pharmacy services for millions of customers.
