Citi Rewards+® Card review: Unique perks without an annual fee

From Time Inc.:

The Citi Rewards+® Card is a no-annual-fee card with a 10% bonus on the first 100,000 points redeemed annually and a feature to round up to the nearest 10 points on every purchase, for example, a $6 purchase earns 10 points. It offers 2 points per dollar at supermarkets and gas stations with a cap of $6,000. However, it has foreign transaction fees and lacks access to Citi’s full list of transfer partners. The card earns 20,000 bonus points after spending $1,500 within 3 months of account opening.

The Citi Rewards+® Card works well with a premium card like the Citi Premier® Card, allowing the combined points earned from both cards to access all of Citi’s hotel and airline transfer partners. It earns 2 points per dollar spent at supermarkets and gas stations with an automatic rounding up feature to the nearest 10 points on every purchase. The card also offers a 10% points rebate on redeemed points, up to 100,000 redeemed points per year. The card is beneficial for those who hold a premium card like the Citi Premier® Card.

The card may not be a good choice for someone looking for a single do-it-all card or for someone who needs a card for use while traveling overseas due to the foreign transaction fees. It offers bonus points at supermarkets and gas stations with a cap of $6,000 and a 10% points rebate on redeemed points up to 100,000 points. The card also offers 5X points on hotel, car rentals, and attractions booked through the Citi Travel℠ portal through June 30, 2024.

The Citi Rewards+® Card allows for multiple ways of redemption including gift cards and travel with a 1 cent per point value, while Shop with Points is also available but at a subpar value. There is a limited number of transfer partners. The Choice transfer rate is 1,000 Citi points = 1,500 Choice Privileges points, 1,000 Citi points = 800 JetBlueTrue Blue points, and 1,000 Citi points = 800 Wyndham Rewards points.

The Citi Rewards+® Card has an annual fee of $0, a foreign transaction fee of 3% of each purchase in USD, an intro APR of 0% for 15 months from the date of account opening, and a purchase APR of 18.74%–28.74%. It offers additional benefits such as access to Citi Entertainment, Citi Merchant Offers, and contactless pay.

Similar to the Citi Rewards+® Card, the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express is a no-annual-fee card that earns 2X points per dollar on U.S. supermarket purchases with a $6,000 limit, and 1% thereafter. However, both cards have foreign transaction fees and the Amex EveryDay card offers a 20% bonus when you make 20+ purchases in a billing cycle.
