A U.S. chemist’s unusual recipe for a perfect cup of tea, involving a pinch of salt and a squeeze of lemon, has sparked controversy in England. Michelle Francl, a chemistry professor at Bryn Mawr College, shared her findings in her book “Steeped: The Chemistry of Tea.” However, the British press and social media were quick to react, with many dismissing Francl’s suggestions as sacrilegious. The U.S. Embassy in London even distanced itself from the chemist, emphasizing that adding salt to Britain’s national drink is not official U.S. policy. The embassy’s post concluded with a humorous jab, stating that they will continue making tea the proper way – by microwaving it.
