Jon Stewart returns to ‘The Daily Show’ — but only on Mondays
From CNBC:
Comedian Jon Stewart is returning to “The Daily Show” as host on Mondays, with a rotating cast of show regulars for the rest of the week. Paramount, Comedy Central’s owner, hopes to keep the series afloat during an election year when Stewart’s political commentary thrived in the past. Late-night TV economics have weakened, and audiences are gravitating towards streaming platforms.
Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, stated that Jon Stewart’s return to “The Daily Show” will provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit in an age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics. Stewart has been busy as the executive producer of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and had a weekly show on Apple’s streaming service, which was recently canceled. He has also been a strong advocate for healthcare benefits for veterans and 9/11 first responders.
