Southwest Airlines surprised with a profit in the third quarter and predicts increased travel demand and higher fares in the fourth quarter. The carrier expects unit revenue to rise by 1-3% with a 6% increase in capacity. Southwest reaffirmed its full-year profit forecast of $600 million to $800 million, down from $1.7 billion. In the third quarter, profit fell over 19% to $54 million. Revenue increased by 1% to $6.95 billion. Southwest is adjusting policies to better compete with rivals and increase sales.
