In-N-Out location in Oakland to close due to crime

In-N-Out Burger will close its only Oakland, CA location due to a surge in car break-ins, theft, and robberies affecting customers and employees—over 1,300 incidents in the vicinity since 2019. Despite efforts for safer conditions, the fast-food chain’s Chief Operating Officer cited the severity of crimes as the reason for the closure. Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao said more police officers are assigned to the area.
The In-N-Out Burger slated for closure is near the Airport and the Coliseum, its 75-year history of the restaurant will come to an end March 24. Incidents since 2019 include nine robberies, two commercial burglaries, four domestic violence incidents, and 1,174 car break-ins. The company cites “repeated steps” for safer conditions of their own attempts.
In response to the In-N-Out Burger closure, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao revealed that more police officers have been assigned to the area in Oakland, although she believed more needs to be done. Property crime statistics also show a downward trend at Hegenberger Road, with car break-ins and thefts down significantly by the end of 2023. Although Mayor Sheng Thao does not mention how this will affect the area with the burger place closed.
