Zelenskyy’s income fell drastically following Russia’s invasion, new declaration reveals
From NBCUniversal:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made his income public for the first time, with a significant drop from 2021 to 2022. The declaration also reveals that the family’s cash balance decreased, but assets and ownership of real estate and vehicles have remained unchanged.
Zelenskyy is promoting transparency in Ukraine and is urging all public officials to disclose their incomes. The National Agency on Corruption Prevention has reopened a register on declared income to public scrutiny, as the U.S. and other allies look for assurances about efforts to eradicate graft in public office.
The Security Service of Ukraine has uncovered a $40 million arms procurement corruption scheme. Five employees from Ukrainian arms firm Lviv Arsenal allegedly conspired with Ministry of Defense officials to embezzle funds earmarked for the purchase of 100,000 mortar shells. Charges have been laid, and those involved could face up to 12 years in jail if found guilty.
