SoftBank has approved a second installment of $22.5 billion to complete its $30 billion investment in OpenAI, as reported by tech news website The Information. The investment is contingent on the AI startup completing a corporate restructuring for a potential public offering. The total financing round announced in April is $41 billion.

The Japanese investment group had agreed to fund OpenAI with $10 billion in April and an additional $30 billion in December. However, if the AI firm does not transition to a for-profit structure by the end of the year, the investment would drop to $20 billion. Reuters could not immediately verify the report, and both SoftBank and OpenAI did not respond to requests for comment.

These developments come as SoftBank aims to support OpenAI’s growth and potential as a leading artificial intelligence company. The funding will enable OpenAI to further develop its technology and pursue strategic initiatives in the AI space. The decision highlights SoftBank’s commitment to investing in cutting-edge technologies with significant growth potential.
