Two leading shipbuilders, HII and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, signed a memorandum of agreement at the APEC 2025 forum to advance shipbuilding dialogue between the US and South Korea. The agreement focuses on strengthening the US shipbuilding industrial base, pursuing teaming opportunities for Navy auxiliary shipbuilding programs, collaborating on technology implementation, and enhancing US Navy Indo-Pacific ship lifecycle support. Both companies will jointly pursue the US Navy’s next-generation logistics ship design contract. The partnership aims to combine Korea’s shipbuilding technologies with the US defense sector’s market competitiveness.
