The U.S. and China engaged in “productive” talks about the fentanyl crisis, acknowledging the risk of China using its influence to gain bargaining power. Tens of thousands of Americans die annually from fentanyl overdose, which is mainly sourced from China and Mexico. The Biden and Xi administrations established a working group, seeking to ease bilateral relations and increase cooperation. China and the U.S. are working to address the fentanyl crisis and improve drug crime prevention through greater international collaboration.
