Amazon will release its quarterly financial results after the stock market closes on Thursday, Oct. 30, after announcing layoffs of 14,000 employees to boost artificial intelligence efforts. The CEO stated the layoffs will focus on logistics, payments, video games, and cloud computing teams, marking the second round of layoffs this year.
Initial reports suggested up to 30,000 corporate job cuts. Amazon currently employs 1.55 million people globally, with the 14,000 layoffs representing 4% of its 350,000 corporate workforce. There are investor concerns following a recent AWS outage impacting high-profile clients like Snapchat and Ring.
Wall Street analysts project Amazon to report earnings per share of $1.58 and revenue of $177.8 billion in the third quarter, with AWS expected to generate $32.4 billion, up 18% from last year. Online sales are anticipated to reach $67 billion, and advertising at $17.3 billion, after missing expectations in the second quarter.
