Memecoiners unveil a 14-foot golden statue of Binance founder Changpeng Zhao outside the U.S. Capitol after he received a pardon from President Trump. The statue features Zhao holding up four fingers as a nod to his code for ignoring fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
In 2023, Zhao pleaded guilty to violating U.S. money laundering laws as Binance CEO, resulting in a $50 million fine and a four-month prison sentence in 2024. Organizers claim work on the Zhao statue began before the pardon and was inspired by attacks against Zhao and Binance’s token BNB.
Organizers plan to gift or sell the statue after displaying it, with proceeds going to Giggle Academy. Zhao launched a free online cryptocurrency education platform for children after stepping down from Binance. The statue has helped bring attention to the CZSTATUE memecoin, briefly reaching a $2.5 million market cap before dropping 80%.
A 12-foot statue of Trump holding a Bitcoin was unveiled outside the U.S. Capitol last month, also associated with a memecoin. The Zhao statue has sparked discussion as a potential trend, but organizers claim no association with the Trump statue’s creators. Zhao questioned the accuracy of reports about the project.
