Angry farmers made a statement by writing a message to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on a highway, demanding better prices and less bureaucracy. Many feel forgotten by EU policies designed for big agriculture, leading to protests and roadblocks across Europe. Droughts, fires, floods, and inflation have made matters worse for farmers, leading the European Commission to propose measures to support them before parliamentary elections in June. In response, some European countries are pledging financial and trade assistance to help struggling farmers.
