Coast Guard inspection yields rescue of dog trapped in shipping container
From Fortune:
A dog was rescued from a shipping container after being trapped inside for more than a week. The dog was found during the routine inspection of the Port of Houston, and it was taken to an animal shelter in Pasadena. The Coast Guard is unsure where the crate came from, as it contained junked vehicles likely headed for sale abroad. The dog has been named Connie and is under the care of a rescue group, who reported that she was underweight and tested positive for heartworm.
U.S. Coast Guard officer Ryan McMahon and his inspection team found a dog trapped inside a shipping container at the Port of Houston. Using a crane, they rescued the dog, later identified as Connie, who had been without food or water for 8 days. The inspectors drove Connie to an animal shelter in Pasadena where she is receiving medical treatment.
Coast Guard officials suspect that the crate Connie was trapped in came from a junkyard and contained scrap vehicles destined for sale overseas. McMahon and his team found Connie during a routine inspection at the Bayport Container Terminal and believe it was fortunate that they were able to save her.
Forever Changed Animal Rescue thanked everyone involved in Connie’s rescue and shared that she was underweight and tested positive for heartworm. They are also providing updates on Connie’s condition and the treatment she is receiving.
