Trump Jan. 6 insurrection trial set for March 4 postponed by federal judge

From Fortune:

The trial date for former President Donald Trump has been officially postponed. This is due to an unresolved legal appeal in the courts, which led U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan to vacate the original March 4 trial date, with no new date set. A separate New York prosecution could proceed first.

As a federal appeals court has yet to resolve a pending appeal from Trump on immunization from prosecution, a new trial date has not been set. Timing is crucial for both Trump and the prosecutors, as the former hopes to delay his criminal cases while he’s a front-runner in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Former President Donald Trump is due back in court in Manhattan on Feb. 15 for a pretrial hearing, and the New York case is expected to start on time on March 25. The case involves Trump’s alleged attempts to hide payments before the 2016 Presidential election, potentially complicating his potential return to the White House.

Trump is also facing numerous charges in Florida and Georgia, including illegally retaining classified documents and plotting to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. No trial dates have been set, but his other cases are set for trial on May 20 in Florida.
