What is Hedge Fund Week? Miami’s “Wall Street South” has a fast-money Coachella in January

The Carlyle Group sponsored a tequila at Fontainebleau Miami Beach, marking the return of the hedge fund elite to South Florida. It’s been an opulent week filled with conferences and parties, with Miami now widely considered “Wall Street South.”

As wealthy financiers flock to Miami for low taxes and good weather, political fundraising and influence-peddling are increasingly focused on the city. Florida has become the largest source of Republican presidential campaign donations, with the money flowing in from all directions.

Miami mayor Francis Suarez has been advocating for the city as a future financial center. Suarez’s message has captured the attention of the financial crowd and has propelled him into the national spotlight. As Miami looks to become “Wall Street South,” the city is finding itself at the center of political and financial maneuvering.

The extravagant festivities reached their peak at the Global Alts 2024 conference, which concluded with a performance by early 2000s rapper Ja Rule. The nightlife was filled with celebration as Wall Street South continued to revel.
