Spotify signs reported $250 million Joe Rogan deal

From Fortune Magazine:

Spotify has renewed its deal with controversial podcast host Joe Rogan in a new multi-year partnership. The “Joe Rogan Experience” will soon be available on Apple Podcasts and YouTube, after being a Spotify exclusive since 2020.

The new agreement with Rogan is worth an estimated $250 million over multiple years and involves an upfront minimum guarantee, as well as a revenue-sharing agreement based on ad sales.

But the controversial podcast host has come under fire in recent years for his comments, including anti-coronavirus vaccine statements and racial slurs. Spotify faced pressure to drop Rogan or remove his podcast but CEO Daniel Ek disagreed and said silencing Joe is not the answer.

Rogan attracts a large audience with his wide-ranging interviews that have been praised for their natural and organic conversations. Spotify’s shares closed up nearly 2%, at $222.47 per share, on Friday.
