Data centre capacity growth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa has slowed in 2025 due to a lack of available power, despite surging demand. Since January, 850 MW of power has come online, 11% below 2024. Overall live data centre capacity is up 12%, with strong demand and restricted power supply.
Global data centre demand has surged since the release of ChatGPT, with investors and governments betting on AI revolutionizing work and life. Power capacity, measured in megawatts, is crucial for data centres. The year-to-date decline in new power delivered is due to energy supply constraints, not a drop in demand.
Take-up of data centre capacity fell to 845 MW, half of 2024’s figure. However, total contracted power capacity, including live and future capacity, grew 12% year-on-year to 14,500 MW, indicating strong demand. As of Q3 2025, 91% of all data centre capacity had been leased, up from 87% in the same quarter of 2022.
