Space-based research may lead to cancer ‘kill switch’

California researchers have teamed up with astronauts to take the battle against cancer to space. The weak gravity in space places cells under incredible stress, causing cancer to progress. The Axiom 3 spaceflight to the ISS took mini-tumors to study how the effect of cancer treatments under microgravity. The flight was delayed due to weather. A team led by Dr. Catriona H.M. Jamieson has been studying cancers in space, hoping to bring a new drug called rebecsinib to clinical trials by the end of 2023.
