A Delaware federal jury ruled that GoDaddy must pay $170 million to Express Mobile for infringing on its website-building technology patents. GoDaddy plans to vigorously fight the verdict in court. The patents owned by Express Mobile were developed by former IBM engineer Steven Rempell. GoDaddy denied the allegations and argued the patents were invalid. Express Mobile previously won a $40 million verdict against Shopify in a similar case. Shopify successfully had the verdict overturned in court.
