Entergy Arkansas plans to invest $1.6bn in a new 754MW natural gas power plant, Jefferson Power Station, to address increasing electricity demand in the state. The project will generate $2.9bn in economic impact, support over 3,600 jobs, and contribute $128m in taxes, while employing 22 full-time staff.
The Jefferson Power Station, set to begin operations in 2029, will utilize combined cycle combustion turbine technology to power 355,000 homes. It aims to provide stable electricity supply during high demand or extreme weather, with 40% more efficiency than older units to reduce fuel and operating costs for customers.
Entergy Arkansas CEO Laura Landreaux views Jefferson Power Station as a key investment in the state’s energy future, ensuring reliability, affordability, and supply for communities to thrive. The company plans to engage local suppliers during construction and explore energy resource diversification at the White Bluff location.
Local authorities support the Jefferson Power Station project for its role in maintaining competitiveness and meeting residents’ and industries’ electricity needs. The facility aims to enhance reliability, keep costs low, and provide dependable energy supply for future generations of Arkansans.
