El Salvador, a pro-crypto country, legally adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021. With President Bukele winning re-election, attention on the crypto and country is growing. The “Bitcoin Law” allowed residents to pay taxes with Bitcoin and buy the cryptocurrency. Bukele claims victory in the presidential election, boasting a reduction in crime levels.

The president’s potential re-election has generated worldwide criticism, but the constitutional court approved his bid. Since being adopted as legal tender, Bitcoin has performed well. A $1,000 investment in Bitcoin in 2021 would be worth $1,285.09 today, up 28.5%. In contrast, the same investment in the S&P 500 ETF Trust would be worth $1,159.23 today, up 15.9%. At all-time highs in November 2021, Bitcoin was worth $2,056.81, up 105.7%.
