Las Vegas avoids Super Bowl-crippling strike with hospitality workers union deal

A union representing hospitality workers has reached a tentative agreement with six hotel-casinos in downtown Las Vegas. The Culinary Workers Union averted a strike deadline for another and is extending time to reach an agreement with the Virgin Las Vegas. The NFL’s 58th championship game is expected to bring 330,000 people to the city this week.

Las Vegas Strip’s three largest employers reached deals late last year with the union, narrowly averting a historic strike. The union represents 60,000 members statewide and negotiates on behalf of its members for five-year contracts. Since early January, talks with properties including Circus Circus, Sahara Las Vegas, and the Strat have been settled.

Remaining casinos faced strike threat after negotiations hit a snag.
