Microsoft Corp. plans to invest $10 billion in an AI data centre in Sines, Portugal. The project, one of its largest in Europe, will involve partnerships with Start Campus, Nscale, and NVIDIA. This investment is larger than all of Microsoft’s previous data centre investments in Spain.

Microsoft’s Vice Chair Brad Smith highlighted the collaboration’s goal of positioning Portugal as an AI benchmark in Europe. Start Campus is leading the SINES DC project, which includes a 1.2-gigawatt data center campus. The company already opened a 26MW data center facility and plans to invest over 8.5 billion euros in the data center hub.

Start Campus, along with Nscale, deployed NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 platform at its SIN01 data center in Sines to support Microsoft in delivering advanced AI capabilities across the EU. In pre-market trading, MSFT shares were down by 0.36 percent, trading at $504.16.
