Homeland Security and FAA double down in Las Vegas to stop Super Bowl from becoming hub for knockoff sports gear, human trafficking and illegal drones
From Fortune:
Security officials are preparing for a busy week in the air, at airports, at Allegiant Stadium and in merchandise shops as crowds arrive for the NFL championship game during the Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
Representatives from federal agencies including Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration briefed the media at Harry Reid International Airport about their plans to counter illegal activity, including counterfeit goods and human trafficking.
Nearly $1 million worth of counterfeit merchandise was seized from four locations just during last weekend by investigators in preparation for the Super Bowl.
Federal aviation officials have designated the air around Allegiant Stadium as a “no drone zone,” saying takeover signals and jammers will be used if necessary.
Efforts to combat human trafficking are also a focus, with airport employees being trained to spot signs and report suspicious activity.
Extra TSA agents will be added to handle record post-game crowds expected at Harry Reid airport, and every lane of every airport security checkpoint will be open nonstop for 48 hours post-Super Bowl.
