Amazon asks judge to toss US class action over Prime benefits
From CNBC:
Amazon.com has requested for a federal judge to dismiss a proposed U.S. class action lawsuit, accusing the company of misleading Prime members regarding its subscription benefits. The company denies violating consumer protection laws in Washington state and emphasizes its right to change Prime benefits at its discretion. Amazon acquired Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 million and has been facing a series of state and federal lawsuits, including an FTC case alleging it used unlawful monopoly power and blocked competitors. In the matter of In re: Amazon Service Fee Litigation, consumer plaintiffs argue that Amazon’s marketing about Whole Foods delivery for Prime members is misleading. However, Amazon argues that it did not conceal a $9.95 “service fee” when processing purchases online from Whole Foods. Attorneys for the plaintiffs estimate that there are hundreds of thousands of members in the proposed class. For more information, readers are encouraged to read additional news articles online.
