Apple (AAPL) has launched a new Digital ID feature in Apple Wallet, allowing users to create a secure form of identification using U.S. passport information. This can be presented at TSA checkpoints in over 250 U.S. airports with an iPhone or Apple Watch. Digital ID is not a replacement for a physical passport and is aimed at users without REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses. To set up Digital ID, users scan their passport, complete biometric verification, and store encrypted information on their device. Apple plans to expand acceptance for age and identity checks, with digital IDs already available in 12 states. Stock closed at $273.47 on Wednesday and currently trades at $273.67 on NasdaqGS.
