2. The microchip insertion process is painless, roughly the same as a vaccination shot, and costs an average of $25 to $60. Some pet insurance companies cover the cost. The procedure is endorsed by the American Veterinary Medical Association and ASPCA for peace of mind for pet owners.

3. There’s no specific age to microchip a dog, but it can be done as early as 8 weeks old when they receive their first vaccinations. Microchips cannot track a dog’s location but can help in bringing them back if lost. Adverse reactions are uncommon but could include the microchip moving or minor skin reactions.
