Ford reassessing EV plans, including vertical battery integration

Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley announced that the company is reevaluating its electric vehicle strategies, particularly in relation to battery integration and capacity in light of slower-than-expected EV sales growth. The company is also considering delaying next-generation EVs to ensure profitability in the current market reality, as the EV business unit lost $4.7 billion last year. Ford intends to focus on increasing hybrid vehicle sales, particularly in trucks, as it pulls back and reevaluates its EV business. This includes selling 133,743 hybrid vehicles in the U.S. in 2023 and expecting a 40% increase in hybrid sales this year. The company is also adjusting its margin and sales targets for its EV business as it shifts focus to hybrid vehicles.
