Food recalls affect all retailers, from specialty to mega stores. The FDA issues hundreds of recalls yearly for allergens, bacterial infections, lead contamination, and foreign matter. Costco has had multiple major recalls, including peaches contaminated with listeria, corn dogs with wooden stick pieces, and sausage with wood chips.
Now, Costco expands its recall of Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene due to bottles potentially exploding. Initially affecting 400,000 bottles, the expanded recall now includes over 941,400 bottles. The recall involves glass bottles with specific UPC and item numbers sold in 12 states from April to August 2025.
If you bought the affected prosecco, do not open it; wrap it, bag it, dispose of it, and get a refund. Do not attempt to return the bottle to Costco. If injured by glass, seek medical attention. Keep your recall notice for a refund, even if you’ve disposed of the bottle safely. Contact Ethica Wines for questions about the recall and refunds.
