Brazilian crypto holders are warned of a sophisticated hacking campaign using a worm and banking trojan spread through WhatsApp messages. The trojan, nicknamed “Eternidade Stealer,” is distributed through social engineering tactics on WhatsApp, targeting financial data and logins for Brazilian banks, fintech, and crypto exchanges.
The worm hijacks accounts and contacts lists, targeting individual contacts for infection. Meanwhile, the banking trojan deploys the Eternidade Stealer in the background, scanning for financial data. The malware avoids detection by using a pre-set Gmail account to check for commands via email, allowing hackers to change commands by sending new emails.
Brazil leads Latin America in crypto adoption, ranking fifth in Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index Top 20. Users are advised to be cautious with links, verify with contacts separately, update software, use antivirus software, freeze access points if hacked, and track funds to potentially freeze hacker wallets.
To stay safe, users should exercise caution with links, verify with contacts, update software, use antivirus protection, freeze access points if hacked, and track funds to potentially freeze hacker wallets.
