Super Bowl Ad Costs Race Past Inflation: $7M Commercial Is Equivalent To $61 Gas, $340 6-Pack
From Nasdaq, Inc.:
Super Bowl LVIII commercial spots will cost $7 million for 30 seconds, a 185x increase from the 1967 cost of $37,500. Chicken wings would be $43 per pound, a six-pack of beer would be $340, and a gallon of gasoline would be $61 at the same increase rate. Super Bowl commercials, even at this cost, continue to be sought after by companies for the strong viewership and stage they bring. In 2023, 93 of the top 100 most-watched programs were NFL games, with the championship game attracting an average of 113 million viewers. In 2024, with the Taylor Swift factor, viewership could break records. Sportsbooks are expected to see up to $1.5 billion in wagers, 35% higher than the previous record. New player promotions are expected to stand out for the big game. The analyst highlighted potential winners of the big game. Companies such as Wynn Resorts could benefit from the game being played in Las Vegas.
The analyst also predicted sports betting market share leaders DraftKings Inc and Flutter Entertainment subsidiary FanDuel would be big beneficiaries from increased wagering this year. Outside of sports betting, Wynn Resorts could benefit from the Super Bowl being played in Las Vegas.
