Vice President Kamala Harris joins messaging platform Community
From Fortune:
Vice president Kamala Harris has joined the SMS marketing platform Community, where she can connect with the public via text. A spokesperson for the Office of the Vice President stated that responses will come from the office and will include updates of Harris’ road trips and discussions with community members on her trademark political policies. Harris will use this as another way to keep the conversation going while advocating for women’s rights to reproductive freedoms and addressing gun violence.
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, 34 states have passed restrictive abortion laws, including complete abortion bans, forced counseling or ultrasounds, no Medicaid abortion coverage, and the ability to shutter abortion clinics. The Guttmacher Institute reports a record 48,830 gun deaths in 2021, a 23% increase from 2019.
The vice president’s new communication line is primarily for people to stay in contact with her and hear directly from her and her office.
Despite the advantages of traditional advocacy methods, engagement with the vice president’s platform differs. The possibility of influencing legislators through direct calls is not a feature of Harris’ new platform. The vice president’s office has assured concerned citizens that the information collected through the platform is not shared with advertisers or sold.
Overall, Harris’ platform is a chance for you to stay in touch with the vice president and her office and hear directly from her on the issues she’s advocating for. Sign up to the Fortune CEO Weekly Europe newsletter for corner office insights on Europe’s biggest business stories.
