On Wednesday afternoon, popular funds holding stocks of companies in low-risk areas like toothpaste and beverages were falling. The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was down 0.4%, with top holdings including Colgate-Palmolive, PepsiCo, Walmart, and Costco. State Street’s S&P Dividend ETF, which pays investors a slice of company profits, was also declining.
