Joby Aviation is suing Archer Aviation, alleging stolen trade secrets from a former employee were used to interfere in its business. Joby claims the employee stole valuable filings, leading to Archer sharing confidential information with a strategic partner. Archer denies the claims, calling the lawsuit baseless and without merit.

Both Archer and Joby are California-based electric air taxi developers who went public in 2021. Archer recently partnered with weapons manufacturer Anduril to develop a hybrid gas-and-electric VTOL aircraft for defense applications. Joby is working with defense contractor L3Harris Technologies to explore a gas-turbine hybrid VTOL aircraft for autonomous flight.
