GM, LG Chem announce $19 billion deal for EV battery materials

From CNBC:

General Motors (GM) will spend $19 billion on a new supplier deal with LG Chem to source materials for electric vehicle batteries. LG Chem will supply GM with more than 500,000 tons of cathode materials from 2026 through 2035, which can power five million EVs with a range of over 300 miles. This contract extends the deal for another five years, reflecting slower than expected EV adoption. The partnership aims to bolster cooperation in the North American market. GM remains committed to creating a sustainable battery EV supply chain. This is likely one of GM’s largest EV supply deals.
