Sriracha shortage: Meet Craig Underwood, the chili pepper farming millionaire

In the 1980s, California farmer Craig Underwood partnered with Cantonese refugee David Tran to grow red jalapeño peppers for Tran’s new sriracha sauce. Over the years, Underwood’s farm expanded to thousands of acres to supply Tran’s booming business. However, the partnership abruptly ended in a fallout and a lawsuit, costing both men millions. Huy Fong Foods saw a shortage of sriracha due to the fallout, and Underwood started his own sriracha brand called Dragon Sriracha.
