Crypto Dispensers, a Chicago-based Bitcoin ATM operator, is considering a $100 million sale as its founder faces money laundering charges. The company shifted to a software-driven model in 2020 to address fraud and regulatory issues. The CEO described the potential sale as part of the firm’s next growth phase.

The US Department of Justice recently unsealed an indictment accusing the CEO and the company of facilitating a $10 million money laundering scheme. Prosecutors allege that Isa accepted proceeds from wire fraud and narcotics trafficking through the ATM network. Isa and the company have pleaded not guilty.

Cities in the US are cracking down on crypto ATMs due to concerns over fraud. The FBI reported nearly 11,000 scam complaints tied to crypto kiosks in 2024, totaling over $246 million. Stillwater, Minnesota, and Spokane, Washington, have both banned crypto ATMs due to scams and illicit activity concerns. Other jurisdictions are imposing restrictions to protect residents.
