Decentralized finance (DeFi) could achieve mainstream adoption in a few years, says Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov. Regulatory and institutional hurdles must be overcome first. DeFi may reach 50% global adoption with clearer regulation and legislation, per Nazarov and Curve Finance founder Michael Egorov. US government approval may set off a domino effect, predicts Nazarov.
Further clarity on DeFi will begin with the US and spread rapidly, according to Nazarov. Michael Selig of the US SEC emphasizes focusing on onchain applications and intermediary involvement. DeFi global adoption could reach 70% with an efficient pathway for institutional users to invest capital. Full global adoption may come when DeFi’s capital base rivals that of traditional finance.
Chainlink founder Sergey Nazarov predicts 100% DeFi adoption by 2030. He envisions pie charts showing the percentage of client money in DeFi versus traditional finance. DeFi lending protocols have gained momentum, with over 72% growth year-to-date, reaching a total value locked of over $127 billion. Institutional adoption of stablecoins and tokenized assets is driving this growth.
