U.S. stocks closed higher for the fourth straight day, with the S&P 500 up 0.7%, the Dow gaining 0.7%, and the Nasdaq adding 0.8%. Technology companies led the rally, with most sectors in the S&P 500 finishing higher.
Markets have a shortened trading week due to Thanksgiving, closing on Thursday and opening for shorter hours on Friday. Investor hopes for another Federal Reserve rate cut in December have fueled the recent rebound, erasing most earlier losses.
Dell Technologies rose 5.8% after record orders for AI servers, helping tech companies like Nvidia and Microsoft. Financial sector stocks also lifted the market, with Robinhood Markets and Urban Outfitters reporting gains.
However, Deere shares dropped 5.7% after a downbeat forecast due to tariff pressures. In the bond market, the 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 3.99%, and the 2-year Treasury yield rose to 3.48%.
Traders are betting on an 83% probability of another Fed rate cut in December. Economic data shows Americans bought less from U.S. retailers in September, fueling concerns about the economy. Corporate earnings have been positive, but economic data remains mixed.
The S&P 500 closed at 6,812.61, the Dow at 47,427.12, and the Nasdaq at 23,214.69. Internationally, shares in Europe and Asia advanced, with Germany’s DAX up 1.1% and Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 rising 1.9%.
