Tesla Vehicles ‘Will Try To Kill You’: Safety Advocacy Group Founder Says FSD Drives ‘Like A Drunk Teenager’
From Nasdaq:
The Dawn Project aired Super Bowl ads urging consumers to boycott Tesla over alleged safety concerns. Founder Dan O’Dowd explained that Tesla’s full self-driving software is the problem, as it can operate very poorly on all roads. The NTSB has expressed frustration over Tesla’s failure to address these issues but lacks the authority to force changes.
During Super Bowl LVIII, 123 million viewers saw the Dawn Project’s ads. The group claims to have proven that Tesla’s full self-driving software will hit a child crossing the road and ignore stop signs on school buses. Tesla has avoided liability for deaths caused by the software by pointing to a paragraph in its manuals allowing its use only on highways.
Tesla could prevent these incidents by updating the software to only engage on highways, asserts O’Dowd. He claims to be capable of writing those changes in a matter of days. The NTSB has issued a statement ordering the Dawn Project to remove the NTSB seal from its website and cease using it in any future commercials. The NTSB has disavowed any involvement in the ad and its content.
