CRST clarifies report about reducing some over-the-road trucking operations, redistributing fleet to other business units. Nearly 200 trucks will be reduced, while 100 will be redeployed. Original anonymous source connected with the company informed FreightWaves of the shutdown. CRST employs 4,082 drivers, 4,362 trucks, and roughly 2,000 independent contractors.
CRST, one of the nation’s largest transportation providers, is shutting down its over-the-road trucking operations. Based in Cedar Rapids, CRST spans expedited freight, flatbed, dedicated contract carriage, truckload capacity solutions, and transportation management. The move would unwind part of CRST’s recent acquisition strategy, including integrating BCB Transport into its capacity solutions segment.
In late 2023, CRST acquired BCB Transport, adding over 300 trucks to increase its fleet by about 10%. The services now being discontinued include dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed one-way OTR capacity. The shutdown also follows multiple layoffs at CRST’s Cedar Rapids headquarters in response to industry slowdown. The company stated the need to align staff levels with the current freight market.
