Anabi Oil, owner of Rebel Convenience Stores, recently acquired 12 convenience stores from C&J Cox Corporation in California. The deal includes nine stores in the Tri-Valley region and three in Lake Tahoe, all under the Cox Family Stores banner. Anabi has acquired nearly 100 stores in recent months, solidifying its position as one of the fastest-growing regional convenience retailers in the US.

With over 500 locations, Anabi has been aggressively expanding its store portfolio. The company purchased 17 c-stores in Florida in June 2024 and acquired the 87-store Green Valley Grocery chain in Nevada two months ago. The latest acquisition closed on Nov. 12, showcasing Anabi’s commitment to growth in the competitive c-store industry.

It remains uncertain if Anabi will rebrand Cox’s stores as Rebel locations. The company did not rebrand the Green Valley Grocery sites acquired in October. Sam Anabi, the founder, emphasized preserving customer trust established by Cox over nearly 50 years, ensuring a smooth transition with existing teams and uninterrupted service.

Cox Family Stores will retain ownership of two locations in the Tri-Valley region not included in the recent transaction. Anabi’s focus on seamless transitions and maintaining strong customer relationships highlights its strategic approach to expanding its presence in the convenience store market.
