NextEra Energy and Google Cloud announced a strategic partnership to develop gigawatt-scale data center campuses in the U.S. to meet AI power demands. The collaboration aims to rapidly develop infrastructure for new data centers, with a focus on grid reliability and capacity for energy-intensive AI operations.

The partnership will also include modernizing grid operations using Google Cloud’s AI and infrastructure software to optimize NextEra Energy’s internal operations. This includes forecasting models and software to predict grid conditions and manage field crews more efficiently.

NextEra Energy and Google plan to release an AI-enhanced product for grid management in mid-2026, aiming to help utilities predict equipment failures and navigate disruptions. This partnership aims to meet increasing demand for AI technologies and strengthen their existing collaboration in energy and technology integration.

The announcement builds on the existing relationship between the two companies, involving approximately 3.5 gigawatts of capacity. Recent plans include restarting the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa and adding 600 megawatts of clean energy to the Oklahoma grid through power purchase agreements.
