The Department of Homeland Security has signed a $140 million contract to acquire six Boeing 737 aircraft for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to expand deportation capabilities with a $170 billion funding boost from Congress. ICE aims for 1 million removals by the end of Trump’s first year, with over 579,000 already. The move to own planes is expected to create savings and more efficient flight patterns. The contract was awarded to Daedalus Aviation, linked to Salus Worldwide Solutions. Previous attempts to purchase aircraft fell through, raising concerns about long-term use and costs beyond the current administration. ICE has conducted 1,701 deportation flights since January.
