The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) now houses the Satoshi Nakamoto statue, representing the intersection of traditional finance and emerging systems. The statue, designed by artist Valentina Picozzi, is installed by Bitcoin company Twenty One Capital, coinciding with the Bitcoin mailing list anniversary of Dec. 10, 2008.
Bitcoin’s journey began with the mining of the genesis block by Satoshi Nakamoto on Jan. 3, 2009. Programmer Laszlo Hanyecz made the first documented Bitcoin purchase on May 22, 2010. Despite challenges from institutions and governments, Bitcoin has gained acceptance, with over 3.7 million Bitcoin collectively held by public and private entities, countries, and ETFs.
Valentina Picozzi plans to install 21 Nakamoto statues worldwide, with existing ones in Switzerland, El Salvador, Japan, Vietnam, and Miami. The statues pay tribute to the mysterious figure behind Bitcoin, symbolizing the decentralized payment system. Picozzi aims to honor developers and programmers who contributed to building the Bitcoin ecosystem.
