Insurance giant Swiss Re posts 580% jump in full-year profit

Swiss Re reports a sharp increase in full-year profit, reaching $3.2 billion, a nearly 580% jump from the previous year. The company also proposes a 6% dividend increase to $6.80 per share for 2023. CEO Christian Mumenthaler expressed satisfaction with the results and warned of the impact of climate change on insurance prices in the future.
Mumenthaler also discussed the role of insurance and reinsurance in setting fair prices for risk. He cautioned that the price of the climate crisis would soon be felt by consumers and emphasized the need for adequate returns for shareholders. In response, shares of Swiss Re saw a 2.1% drop in London.
