The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) supports the EC’s “automotive package” for decarbonisation and resilience goals, requiring a 90% reduction in tailpipe emissions by 2035 with offsets like low-carbon steel or e-fuels. Urgent steps are needed for 2030 flexibility, as the impact of 2035 measures may be limited without them.
ACEA welcomes measures in the Automotive Omnibus to streamline processes and reduce costs for manufacturers, with targeted measures for light commercial vehicles (LCVs). Director general Sigrid de Vries emphasizes the need for flexibility and technology neutrality for a successful green transition, but further assessment and strengthening of proposals may be required.
ACEA previously raised concerns over disruptions in vehicle production due to a shortage of microchips, linked to a political dispute halting exports from China. The association will closely study the EC’s automotive package and collaborate with legislators to ensure necessary improvements and adjustments for the industry’s transition.
