The Technology & Communications sector is showing a 1.0% loss, with Applied Materials, Inc. (Symbol: AMAT) and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (Symbol: AMD) lagging at 5.7% and 5.4%, respectively. The Energy sector is not far behind, with a 0.9% loss, led by Valero Energy Corp (Symbol: VLO) and Marathon Petroleum Corp. (Symbol: MPC) at 3.1% and 2.8% down, respectively.

As of midday Tuesday, the stock price performance of S&P 500 components in various sectors shows a mixed bag. Consumer Products and Utilities are up, while five sectors, including Technology & Communications and Energy, are showing losses.

The Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLK) is currently down 1.5% on the day. Comparing stocks and ETFs on a trailing twelve month basis, Tech stocks like AMAT and AMD are up 16.09% and 11.56% year-to-date, while Energy stocks like VLO and MPC are up 4.88% and 10.84% year-to-date, respectively.
