Grocery chains like Albertson’s and Kroger are cutting costs, closing stores, and laying off employees due to higher prices from suppliers. Ahold Delhaize’s Giant Food and The Giant Company will close six centralized e-commerce fulfillment centers, transitioning to a local, store-first network. The closures will affect almost 1,700 jobs and reflect changing customer preferences for fast delivery and more assortment.
